I am a mom, crafter, teacher, marching band officer and an ovarian cancer survivor. Over the past 2 years I underwent chemotherapy and several surgeries, all as a single mom providing for 3 children, one of whom happens to have Down Syndrome. She is amazing and I love her dearly. She is funny, crafty, loving and so many more things that are wonderful.
Kathryn ran a contest for respite through her nonprofit organization. I had a close friend who was getting married in Punta Cana at the same time I was turning 55. I wrote an essay and was blessed to be selected to receive funds for much needed respite. The cost was prohibitive for me, without the blessing of the funds from this program.
I had the most amazing “me weekend.” I have a 14 year old son with autism as well as a 13 year old daughter and 4 year old twins. I am a single working mom who never gets out of the house and I am really overwhelmed.
For my respite, I slept in a king bed, got my very first professional massage, and had delicious food. But nothing could compare to the peace and quiet I received. It really solidified how important it is to take time out for yourself once in a while. I truly appreciated every minute.
